About Andy Rees PT

A Different Approach to Fitness, Health, and Personal Empowerment

This one-of-a-kind system, created by Andy Rees, is designed to positively transform not just your fitness, but your entire approach to health and well-being. Through a blend of proven techniques, you'll enhance your strength, boost your fitness, and learn methods that support performance, recovery, and injury prevention.

Explore specialised stretching methods which improve mobility, increase flexibility, and help prevent injuries. You can also integrate Tai Chi into your sessions to develop total muscle control by strengthening the connection between your brain, nervous system, and proprio-receptors.

Breathing techniques are also a key part of the system, helping you tap into the parts of the brain that regulate the fight-or-flight response, giving you greater control over stress and anxiety.

Self-defence is taught in a completely unique way. By understanding how the brain functions under threat and using simply but effective movements to immediately stop an attacker, regardless of your size or theirs. No complex physical skills, but effective strategies to stop an attacker, helping you move through life with more confidence, less fear, and a deeper sense of peace.

True health goes beyond muscle and cardio. It's about how we think, feel, and interact with the world around us, that’s why different elements are offered in one place, a complete system.

Sessions are held in person, either one-on-one or in small groups.
Each 60-minute session can focus on a specific area — such as fitness, Tai Chi, or self-defence — or combine multiple elements based on your individual goals.

Training Background

Self defence

I completed an advanced, specialist instructor program focused on military hostile contact training. This comprehensive training provided a deep understanding of combat psychology, specifically how the fight-or-flight response shapes reactions under extreme stress. It also covered practical skills across a range of scenarios, including hand-to-hand, hand-to-weapon, and weapon-to-weapon combat.
After training a variety of individuals and groups for over two decades, I used this knowledge to develop a new approach to self-defence, one not only for the battlefield but designed to work for everyday life when it matters most: in real-life, high-pressure situations and not only on the battle field.

It’s not a sport or a martial art — it’s practical, realistic, and built to be effective under the genuine stress of an attack.

Tai Chi & Qigong

I had the privilege of training one-on-one with Ken Johnson, the head of the Liang Yi School of Tai Chi, becoming fully qualified to teach Tai Chi and Qi Gong.
My Tai Chi and Qi Gong lineage follows a distinguished path:
  • Yang Cheng Fu – Renowned as one of the most influential teachers of Yang-style Taijiquan.
  • Yang Shou-Chung – The eldest son of Yang Cheng Fu.
  • Master AFC Kong – A direct student of Yang Shou-Chung.
  • Master Ken Johnson – Elevated to the position of Head of the Liang Yi School by Master AFC Kong, and former Chief instructor of The world Tai Chi boxing federation.
  • Andy Rees – Instructor Level at the Liang Yi School of Tai Ji Quan and Qi Gong.

Sessions can include:
  • Liang Yi Tai Chi Form (from the Yang family heritage)
  • Tai Chi Spear Form
  • Broadsword Form
  • A range of Qi Gong sets

Health & Fitness

My experience in physical training draws from a diverse range of sources, blending them into a unique approach to caring for the body — what I like to call "the organic motor home." Instead of simply pushing through intense workouts, my method takes an intelligent and focused approach to exercise. It’s designed to address current injuries, correct muscle imbalances, and prevent future injuries, while simultaneously building a solid foundation of strength, stability, and flexibility.

I’ve been fortunate to receive years of private tuition from Master John Gent, co-founder of the British Wheel of Yoga and formerly the UK’s most senior yoga teacher examiner. Through him, I gained access to a rich body of authentic knowledge on Chinese, Indian, and Tibetan yoga.
Additionally, my experience in preparing to teach close-quarters military combat introduced me to modern techniques in stretching, core strengthening, and stability training.

By blending these different approaches, I’ve developed a training method that goes beyond typical exercise routines and can be tailored to meet very specific needs.
