What Clients say about Andy Rees PT

Lucy Johnston -

Health Editor,

Daily Express

"I was nineteen and full of life when I was involved in a car collision. Rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge I fell into a coma, suffering a major head injury, collapsed lungs and broken pelvis. My life was hanging in the balance. Miraculously I survived but little attention was paid to my broken pelvis. I suffered minor back and pelvis pain ever since but was still able stay fit. But in July 2009 - after two caesareans' and a few years of carrying children - the pain became intense and constant. By October it was difficult to bear. Painkillers made little or no difference. I could no longer walk without hurting let alone run or exercise. It was hard to sleep too. I became determined to find a solution. I spent nearly £20,000 of health insurance looking. I had two MRI scans, injections of painkillers into my spine, reiki, a year of Pilates, months of physiotherapy yoga, I visited 5 orthopaedic specialists, 7 chiropractors, 2 osteotherapists. I travelled around the country and even abroad to get help. Nothing seemed to work.

Then I met Andy who gently explained no matter what state my pelvis was in there was something I could do. It wasn't about spending hours in the gym building up muscles. I had those. It was about firing up muscles that had ceased to function because of damage or misuse. His patience, his strength and his belief in me helped me keep going. I adhere to his philosophy of exercise and strength building and, four years on, I have a bit of discomfort sometimes, but nothing like pain and I am living my life to the full again."

Tai Chi and Qigong has had a profound effect on me but this is also due to my luck in finding Andy as a teacher. His teaching method slowly builds allowing your understanding to deepen overtime, otherwise it would be overwhelming. Andy’s knowledge of the subject is exceptional and his willingness to share is such a positive and truly enlightening. Andy has used his Tai Chi principles to help improve my workouts and restore my rotator cuff, amazing.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started Tai Chi and Qigong but it’s been life changing. It provides both physical and mental wellbeing, providing stress relief and an overall feeling of being alive. It’s become an important part of my life and something I attempt to follow outside the weekly class. It’s joyful, providing an opportunity to meet new people, share experiences and laugh. After each class I feel so much lighter and ready to face the week.

"I had previously been in the Special Forces Ranger Unit in the Swedish military where we were taught self-defence and survival tactics. I have also been involved in various martial arts but this far I hadn’t come across anything that struck me as being truly effective.

A few years ago I was introduced to Andy, and I was amazed at how easy his self-defence system really is. Andy will give you the tools and the confidence, to get out a dangerous encounter unhurt.  The old belief ‘size and strength matter’ was eliminated and all in a very non-threatening, relaxing and positive environment. What really matters is the right knowledge. Now it’s up to you to make that first step."

Mark Black -

Managing Director of Portable Space

"Having done long distances triathlons, Iron Man events, cycling and cross country skiing events I felt I needed a more structured approach to training especially as inevitable aches and pains were starting to take their toll. Following a word of mouth recommendation I decided to see how Andy might help.

Andy quickly figured me out and helped to identify weaker areas to develop and things have gone from strength to strength, I have a much better base fitness and I am a lot more flexible than when I started. Andy is very skilled with his knowledge about body mechanics, seamlessly adjusting routines to what he observes during a session and he is also a great person to spend time with too."

Tim Staples -

Force Warrant Officer,

RAF Regiment

“Enrolling in RBM prior to deploying to Kandahar in Afghanistan to work on 'hearts and minds' projects in outlying villages enhanced my confidence in dealing with confrontational and challenging situations greatly. Andy's quietly confident demeanour encouraged learning, was infectious and motivated all who were taught by him. Thank you Andy for the changes you made to my life, indirectly you could possibly have saved the lives of some of my gunners and I would recommend your training to anyone."

Sarah King

"Working as a model for 12 years in London, Paris, and New York, I spent many hours in gyms under the tuition of instructors, many of whose methods were predictable, uninspiring, and ineffective.

With Andy the exercises were difficult at first, some impossible, but as the weeks went by, the impossible slowly became the possible and as a result I felt fit and strong.  I became pregnant with my first child, so took a break from exercise, but two children and two cesareans later, I started tailor made personal training sessions with Andy, who ensured I safely repaired the damaged caused by the cesareans, and regained my core strength. A year and a half on, and I have made a successful return to my modelling career. I am physically strong, meaning I feel energised, happy and balanced. For these reasons, and due to the fact that he has become a good friend, Andy is indispensable in my life."

Travels in the Sahel

"Self-defence is Andy's metier, and he is a highly skilled teacher. Before setting off on a journey for my latest book, about travelling with nomads across Niger's Sahel at a time of rebellion, Andy taught me how to disarm a gun-armed aggressor, which dissolved my fear of such potentially threatening scenarios in a hostile land. This is a fantastic life enhancer and will empower all those wishing to explore this path"

Capt. R. Sonne - Denmark

"Being ex-military with a long-range reconnaissance patrol unit, I can recognise a solid and efficient combat system when I see it.  I got introduced to Andy Rees and his self-defence system, I seriously didn’t believe it to start with. It's so efficient and requires no fitness, no speed and little repetitive training, and still is THE system that does it all. I'm truly impressed with not only the system, but also the way it's taught. The teaching techniques are impressive and the knowledge about the psychological & physical processes in a stress situation, the functionality of the body and mind, and the way to use it all to your advantage, is worth gold.”

Steve Lockhart - UK

“This is the most important, valuable self defence information I know of for people in today's society. Andy has a unique compassionate skillset amongst any peer group you could possibly envisage, coupled with the highest capability to teach and pass information on. The courses have always been safe, non-macho, require minimal fitness and no special skills to be efficient & effective. I came from a place of overt fear of violence, victimhood and insecurity but now possess confidence and a knowledgeable toolbox on how to defend myself. I am changed in my demeanour with a very quiet & healthy self-assurance. I wholeheartedly recommend Andy Rees PT self-defence. "

Rob Palmby - UK

"The psychology of this self-defence system is life changing, and the physical side is super efficient. The way it's taught is so uncomplicated and very easy to grasp.
For me, it’s been more about changing my mindset, in turn this helps me to react positively to everyday situations, big or small. I highly recommend it.”
